Josef Schörghuber acquired a majority shareholding in the Hacker-Pschorr Bräu, Paulaner-Salvator-Thomasbräu and Kulmbacher Reichelbräu breweries in 1979. There are now 14 breweries in the Paulaner Brewery Group, which is operated as a joint venture between two family-owned companies, the Schörghuber Group (70 percent) and the Dutch brewery group Heineken (30 percent).
